Don Brown's letter (Letters, April 18) and Labour's leaflets going around Brighton and Hove complaining about a reduction of services of 20 per cent if the Conservatives take control of the council are not only misleading but are a bit rich from a local Labour Party that has just cut £6 million from the council's budget for the present financial year.
The 20 per cent figure is a deliberate misrepresentation of a statement by the Conservative Party that the national leadership of the party is seeking up to a 20 per cent reduction in the costs of administration of public services so that more of this money can be spent on providing the services the public needs.
It is typical of the desperation we are seeing from Labour locally that it has to resort to these kinds of scare tactics.
People will see through them. It is too late for Labour.
-Coun Brian Oxley, leader Conservative Group Brighton and Hove Council
