Adam Shields denied his Eastbourne team-mates victory in last night's British League Cup clash at the Isle of Wight.
Shields, riding for the Islanders, roared to victory in the final race to help the home side snatch a 45-45 draw.
Eagles looked like recording their third successive win in the competition when they led by six points with three heats to go but then the wheels started to come off.
Dean Barker, who rode despite feeling unwell, and Peter Ljung conceded a 5-1 to the star Isle of Wight pairing of Shields and Danny Bird in heat 13.
Then Islanders reserve Chris Mills scored a shock win in a heat 14 rerun after the race had been stopped with Garry Stead and Matt Read first and second.
That meant the visitors went into the last-heat decider leading by two points and needing a 3-3 to win the match.
But with Joe Screen only managing to split Shields and Bird, and Joonas Kylmakorpi last, the Islanders grabbed a 4-2 to level the scores.
Shields finished with 15 points and Bird with paid 15, both from six rides, while Screen top scored for Eastbourne with 13 points from five outings.
Most of the heats in a tense affair were shared, but Eagles seized the initiative with a trio of 4-2 wins.
Screen and Kylmakorpi pocketed the first, then Barker and Ljung, who had flown in hours before the match after getting a surprise recall to the side, and finally Kylmakorpi and Read.
Kylmakorpi was in tremendous form in the early stages, posting the two fastest times at the stadium this year in his first couple of rides and then swooping past both Ray Morton and Sebastian Tresarrieu on the last lap to snatch another race win.
Isle of Wight: Adam Shields 15, Danny Bird 14, Ray Morton 7, Chris Mills 6, Stephane Tresarrieu 2, Sebastian Tresarrieu 1, Glen Phillips 0.
Eastbourne: Joe Screen 13, Joonas Kylmakorpi 10, Dean Barker 7, Matt Read 6, Peter Ljung 5, Garry Stead 4, Daniel Giffard 0.
