Crawley Town held third-placed Tiverton to a 1-1 draw at Broadfield Stadium in the Dr Martens premier division.
Ernie Cooksey gave Crawley the lead after 29 minutes when he raced into the six-yard box to stab home a cross from Mo Harkin.
As Cooksey ran back celebrating, Tiverton's Steve Winters appeared to punch him in the stomach and was lucky to receive no more than a verbal warning.
Reds had threatened three times to score, each time through top scorer Nic McDonnell.
The Devon club got more into the game during the second half but Andy Little saved a penalty taken by Scott Rogers in the 66th minute.
Tiverton equalised after 68 minutes, Winters' free kick nodded home by Kevin Nancekivell.
