Worthing came back to earth following their 2-0 win at Lewes with a 4-1 Division One South defeat at highly-placed Whyteleafe.
Rebels, playing their fourth game in a week, conceded three goals in the final 33 minutes after a penalty by Andy Walker had cancelled out an early strike from Stuart Massey.
Whyteleafe regained the lead two minutes later when former Crawley players Peter Garland outpaced the defence before beating keeper Luke Burton with a left foot shot from an acute angle.
Mark Dickinson made it 3-1 by heading in a corner from Andre Robinson on 68 minutes at the near post and Danny Bower wrapped things up with another header a minute from time. Bower struck from six yards after a corner from the right by Massey.
Worthing had suffered an early blow when keeper Burton failed to collect a 20-yard shot by Massey and it rebounded off him and into the net.
Andy Alexander put a left foot volley over and Brackley was also off target before Walker levelled with a lucky penalty eight minutes after the break after Massey handled on the edge of the area.
Meanwhile, Horsham bounced back after conceding a goal after just 58 seconds to beat Bracknell Town 2-1.
Nko Ekoku's corner was headed on in the box by Stuart Hammonds and Jody Yee hooked the ball past the helpless Ian Chatfield to give Bracknell, who netted after 45 seconds at Queen Street in January, their lead.
Hornets equalised on the quarter hour. Gavin Geddes controlled a cross from the right and turned inside defender Neil Baker before slotting the ball into the far right corner.
Horsham secured their win in the 66th minute. Chatfield's clearance was flicked on by Steffan Ball and Gary Charman beat two defenders before stabbing the ball past Lee Edwards.
Withdean 2000 maintained their title push in the Combined Counties League with a 2-0 home win over Bedfont.
Goals came from Chris Dicker and Sam Francis and Withdean will be champions if they win three of their remaining six matches.
