Steyning Town came from behind on three occasions to gain a 3-3 draw at home to Oakwood.
Goals from Graham Rashbrook, Zak Newman and Mo Shuga'a put the visitors ahead three times but Steyning responded through Darren Kelly and substitute James O'Neill twice.
O'Neill was making his first appearance after two months out with a knee injury and he scored with his first touch after replacing Richard Lester.
Oakwood general manager Alan Gould said: "We threw away some silly points during the season and if we hadn't we would have been pushing harder for promotion but fourth place is the best finish since we were relegated so we have to be pleased."
The match between the bottom two ended in a 4-2 win for Pease Pottage away to Oving.
The result was irrelevant in terms of league placings with Oving already confirmed as finishing bottom, while Pottage will survive the drop if only one team is relegated due to the merger between Eastbourne United and Shinewater.
Goals from George Smith, Dave Powis, Gareth Neathey and Neil Lambert gave Pottage the points although there was a scare when their 2-0 lead was wiped out by strikes from Duncan Terry and Callum Brittton.
A hat-trick from Graham Holman helped Shinewater to a 3-1 victory at home to Wealden. Ian Breeds replied.
Dominic Clarke got the only goal 15 minutes from time as Westfield beat Eastbourne United 1-0.
Wealden and Westfield drew 1-1 last night with Jim Sneddon and Duncan Jones scoring respectively.
Crawley Down won 3-1 at Worthing United thanks to Matt Lake's opener and a brace from Graham White.
