The fifth annual UK online for business/InterForum E-Commerce Awards have been launched in the South-East.

The awards, sponsored in the region by the South-East England Development Agency (Seeda), recognise and reward innovation in the use of the internet and information and communications technologies to transform small and medium businesses in the UK.

They are open to any UK business with up to 250 employees.

The awards consist of regional heats in four different categories: Ebusiness start-ups; etrading; e-business and voluntary; and community sector.

The category winners from each region will receive £2,000 and go on to the national finals where they will compete with other category winners for an £8,000 prize.

The four national category winners will then go head-to-head for the National E-Commerce Awards Champion 2003 title to win £30,000.

Last year, a record-breaking 1,683 organisations entered the awards - 241 of them from the South-East.

Steve Coppins, Seeda's broadband manager, said: "These awards are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate ICT innovation and success across the South-East."
