Cataloguing some records recently, I could not help noticing how frequently colours cropped up in song titles.
While lavender, brown and scarlet cropped up only once, Lady In Red, Red Sails In The Sunset and Red Roses For A Blue Lady quickly put red in the lead but four blues, including Blue Moon, soon altered the ratings again.
In the stack of records I surveyed, yellow came top with no less than six titles, of which Yellow Submarine and Yellow Rose Of Texas are probably the newest and oldest.
Val Doonican's 1970 hit Sing A Rainbow gives us multi-colours rivalled only by Joseph's Coloured Coat in the Lloyd-Webber musical.
My own personal favourite song colour is green as it features in the title of one of my favourite ballads, The Green Green Grass Of Home, sung most famously by Tom Jones, who, like the song itself, is still as popular after almost 40 years.
