Mark Earl fears his world dream could be shattered.
The 15-year-old Brighton Buccaneer has been selected for Great Britain's World Championship Under-16s baseball team for the United States from July 25 to August 13 but he needs to find £1,500 to fund the trip.
He said: "It is a big sum for me and my family to find.
"It would be a great shame if all the hard work I've put in is wasted. But the simple fact is that if I don't find the money I don't go.
"The governing body cannot afford to pay for us so each player has to pay for everything like the travelling, hotel and kit.
"Some players are able to raise the money more easily. But I know my family would struggle."
He has done a five-mile run to raise funds and sent letters to companies hoping they will support him.
To represent his country has been a dream since Mark, a pupil at Oakmeeds (Burgess Hill), discovered the sport at a Brighton and Hove carnival when he was aged eight.
The family estimate his sport costs them £3,500 a year.
