I detect a certain amount of nimbyism from Helen Mason (Letters, May 2) regarding plans to build a new stadium for the Albion at Falmer.
Her rather unconvincing arguments are extremely onesided and she seems to care nothing about the plight of the Albion fans who, through no fault of their own, were deprived of their ground.
She is totally unconcerned to see the Downs behind Brighton and Hove built on and the barrier of the A27 bypass breached, which would inevitably lead to a flood of planning applications.
Sussex University has already been built. What is being considered here is the future.
I agree with Helen that the sunset on Falmer pond is a beautiful sight but the pond is not going to be built on.
The village itself, which has already been ruined by the necessary upgrading of the A27 and the access roads to the universities, is not particularly attractive.
What may be required is a small development of, say, 20 or 30 cottages around the pond area to breathe some new life into the community.
You need only look at Lindfield to see the possibilities.
Sometimes, difficult choices have to be made that will not suit everyone.
However, the Albion deserve a new ground and Brighton and Hove City Council, owing to past mistakes, has a moral duty to help provide it.
This site is far and away the least environmentally damaging.
Perhaps some sort of compromise could be arranged? - a new stadium with proper safeguards as regards quality of life in return for planning permission for an improved village.
