Many candidates make sacrifices when they get elected on to their local councils but few suffer as much as Averil Older.
Now that she has become a Conservative member of Brighton and Hove City Council, she has to give up her job.
The reason is she works as a guide for the Royal Pavilion which is owned by the council.
There is a strict rule that you cannot be a councillor and work for the same authority too. It could provide jobs for the boys and girls and lead to corruption.
It's sad for Averil, who really loved her job. But she'll enjoy council work too and if she ever either gives up or is defeated, there'll probably still be a post waiting for her.
