New pavements will be laid in Windsor Road, Heatherstone Road and Malvern Close, Worthing, during the next two years.
Residents say they are pleased West Sussex County Council has agreed to the upgrade but want to see them made of different material.
The council is proposing to Tarmac the pavements in two of the roads but residents want red brick to be used.
Irene Richards, county councillor for East Worthing, said: "I am pleased that, at last, the county council has agreed to attend to these pavements.
"Unfortunately, they are still refusing to replace the pavements in Heatherstone Road and Malvern Close with the original red bricks and are insisting on using black Tarmac.
"I am still working with residents to lobby the council to replace the once magnificent red tiled pavements in this area."
