The queen of Sussex athletes is set to be dethroned.
Debbie Woolgar has competed for more than 20 years in the Sussex Championships and never gone home with anything less than two gold medals.
But at Crawley this weekend she could losethe discus crown, which she has won 19 times since 1980, and the shot title that has been hers since 1980.
In the last three years, Brighton and Hove's Claire Smithson has bettered Woolgar's winning efforts in both events when taking the under-17 and under-20 titles. This year Smithson goes head to head with Woolgar and is in top form.
Last week, she who won the British Universities discus title (47.48m), a distance no other Sussex athlete has achieved.
Commonwealth Games champion Mick Jones, who lives at Crawley, is entered for the hammer. Sean Baldock goes in the 100m, 200m and 400m.
Last year, Baldock pulled a muscle in the 200m heats and the title, plus the 400m, went to Alastair Gordon.
Gordon set a championship record in the 400m, a record Sean will be eager to regain.
Gordon also goes in the 800m, a novice event for him, and he could challenge Brighton and Hove's Martin Airey for his crown.
The championships at Crawley Leisure Centre start at 11am tomorrow and Sunday.
