The recent Brighton Festival is to be greatly commended for the pleasure it gave to so many over three short weeks.

The adventurous and enlightened pricing policy meant events such as Alexander Nevsky and Britten's War Requiem could be attended for just £6 and full houses were, of course, the happy result.

This reader has every intention of returning next year to savour England's biggest and best festival in all its infinite and unpredictable variety.
