For the second time in three weeks heavy mist caused the postponement of the Davies and Tate Trophy fourth round tie between The Dyke and Copthorne.

No new date has been arranged. The quarter-finals of the Plate offer several intruiging clashes, notably East Brighton's home tie with West Sussex.

In the last five years both clubs have each won the Trophy.

East Brighton's 9.5-2.5 defeat of Mid Sussex in the second round indicated they will be a tough proposition at home.

Only ex-Sussex champion Martin Galway and old-stager John Newsome gained victories for the Ditchling club.

Brighton and Hove made short work of Chartham Park by 8.5-3.5 with sweeping wins for Stephen Stark (7 & 6), Tim Hoyles (7 & 5) and Alan Barnes (8 & 7).

Ifield, who visit the B&H next time, had reason to be pleased with their 7-5 win at Bognor when they lost only two singles.

Similarly, Littlehampton were too strong for Hassocks although big guns Steve Graham and Wayne Hawes were not on parade in the 9.5-2.5 pushover.

Davies & Tate Plate 2nd round results: The Nevill beat The Goodwood Club 8-4; Bognor Regis lost to Ifield 7-5; Highwoods beat Cooden Beach 9.5-2.5; Slinfold Park lost to West Sussex 9-3; Tilgate Forest beat Rustington 8-4; Littlehampton beat Hassocks 9.5-2.5; Brighton & Hove beat Chartham Park 8.5-3.5; East Brighton beat Mid Sussex 9.5-2.5.

Third round draw, to be played on July 19: Littlehampton v Tilgate; East Brighton v West Sussex; Brighton & Hove v Ifield; The Nevill v Highwoods.
