Sussex Second XI jumped to third place in the Championship after a ten-wicket demolition of Essex at Billericay.

The hosts, resuming in a near hopeless position at 141-5 still 43 behind, were dismissed for 191 to leave Sussex just eight to win.

Mike Yardy and Ashley Wright knocked off the runs in two overs as Sussex, who won only three matches last season, stormed to their second victory in three games.

Essex's fate was effectively sealed with the early dismissal of skipper Barry Hyam, who was caught at the wicket off Paul Hutchison (2-77) for 47.

Off-spinner Luke Marshall, who finished with 4-40 for a match return of 7-116, then removed Justin Bishop and Irfan Shah in quick succession.

Bishop was trapped leg before for 38 before Shah (2) holed out at deep mid off, and another poor shot by West Indian Joseph Grant saw him dismissed in identical fashion off Shaun Rashid (3-25) for a duck.

Irishman Adrian McCoubrey went for only a single to a return catch by Marshall.

Pace bowler Rashid finished with 3-25 in ten overs while Hutchison got through 20 overs to have 2-77
