The sun is out, the sky is blue (and white), there's not a cloud to spoil the view and the traffic is streaming into Brighton and Hove to spend time and money in our city.

Cars are parked outside houses in Withdean, on the grass at Stanmer Park and in the village at Falmer and no-one bats an eyelid.

On match days, visitors to Hove Rugby Club in Shirley Drive can also park where they like - including on the grass verges.

But mention the words "football traffic" and suddenly everyone becomes paranoid.

While Brighton and Hove Albion are trying desperately hard to obtain permission for a new ground so more of the community can support their team and the local economy, they have to jump backwards through hoops to appease environmentalists and jacketed stewards.

I am convinced that once the stadium is up and running at Falmer, Joe Public and the antis will wonder what all the fuss was about and the residents of Falmer (like those presently at Withdean) will look forward to match days when the traffic, thanks to the Albion and their transport strategy, will actually be less than now experienced on an ordinary day or weekend.

As a teacher, the above scenario reminds me of the expression 'it's not fair, sir'.
