Teachers, support workers, library staff and colleagues from Hove Park School are getting into shape to take part in the Cancer Research UK Race For Life.

English teacher Sarah Paddock is among almost 30 runners from the school.

She said: "All of us have had experience of cancer in some way or another, either through having it or having friends or relatives who have been ill.

"When the application form went up we had an avalanche of responses and before we knew it we were approaching a team of 30.

"Almost all of us work at the school, although there are a couple of others who are friends and relatives.

"It is going to be a great day and we are all getting in training for it. There is a mixture of people choosing to walk or run but our main aim is to raise as much money as we can."

There are still some places available for the Race for Life at Stanmer Park in Brighton on July 6 and Alexandra Park in Hastings on June 29.

Thousands of women and girls of all ages are expected to take part and organisers are hoping for a record-breaking year.

More than 130 similar events are taking place across the UK and there have already been two successful runs in Eastbourne and Crawley.

Proceeds will go towards vital research into the treatment and prevention of cancer.

Race for Life has been running for ten years and helped saved countless lives by raising millions of pounds.

Entry to the 5km race costs £7.50 or £4.50 for under 18s. For more details, call the hotline on 08705 134314 or go to www.raceforlife.org
