Five teenagers have appeared in court charged with conspiracy to rob.
The group, aged 14 to 17, allegedly tried to steal from passengers on a train between Gatwick and Horsham on June 7.
Police at Horsham arrested and charged them the same day.
The boys, from Thornton Heath in Surrey, appeared at Mid Sussex Youth Court in Haywards Heath yesterday.
Two were remanded in custody and the others were released on conditional bail. They are forbidden from entering West Sussex except to appear in court or by pre-arrangement with their solicitors.
The group is due to appear at Mid Sussex Youth Court on July 14, when the case is expected to be committed to crown court.
