It was good news to read in the Argus (June 16) of the introduction of six new "litter police" by Brighton and Hove Council.
These enforcement officers will crack down on businesses who do not arrange for commercial collection of their rubbish and residents who put their sacks of waste out on days it is not collected.
They are already cracking down on fly-posting, graffiti and littering, with the power to issue on-the-spot fines to offenders.
While there is still some way to go in making our streets as clean as we would wish, this is a step in the right direction and one which should be applauded.
-Councillor Warren Morgan Labour, East Brighton
