Nine times Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova has dismissed Tim Henman's chances of winning the elusive men's title.

Navratilova, 46, insisted the British No. 1 has not got a prayer after her doubles defeat with Australian Alicia Molik at the Hastings Direct Championships at Eastbourne yesterday.

Henman has battled back from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for three months until he returned in February.

Navratilova said: "Tim has picked himself to win Wimbledon but I wouldn't put money on him.

"I'm afraid it's just not going to happen this year.

"He doesn't look sharp. I watched him at Queen's and he missed shots left and right.

"He's had better run-ups before and did well.

"He played great for one set in France but the truth is he hasn't had enough matches.

"The pressure will be off him and I think even the British have lowered their expectations and I don't see him able to keep it going even though he has a nice draw."

Navratilova revealed she thought Henman would win Wimbledon last year before he was defeated in the semi-finals by eventual champion Lleyton Hewitt.

And she believes the All England Club could do a bit more to help the would-be home hero.

She said: "I think if Wimbledon had got the lawnmowers out last year he could have won it. As it was two baseliners ended up in the final (Hewitt and David Nalbandian) instead of a serve and volleyer like Henman."

Navratilova tips Hewitt and Serena Williams to retain their Wimbledon crowns.

Navratilova revealed she is carrying a heel injury into Wimbledon where she will team up with Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.

But she predicted: "I still might win another Wimbledon title. Who knows?

"I feel all right in heart and mind and the match practice I have had this week at Eastbourne has been good work for me going into Wimbledon."
