While Bentley were ensuring an English name dominated the Le Mans 24-hour race in France, an endurance event with a distinctive French look to it took place in Norfolk.

This year's 24-hour race for Citroen 2CVs was at Snetterton with 36 cars entered.

Sussex pair Glenn Burtenshaw (Forest Row) and Robin Webb (Three Bridges) are normally seen at the wheel of the Team Vegetarian Shoes/Viscom Legends Car but the chance to compete in the UK's only 24-hour car race proved too good to miss.

Joining the Sussex pair in the Hollis Motorsport car were Andy Walker and Jeremy Smith.

The team missed half of qualifying after engine problems but secured 24th on the grid. They climbed to 14th after three hours.

At 9pm a collision required an hour's repairs. but things improved until 3am when the engine blew. The team fitted another within 45 minutes and were back on circuit briefly before two stops after the fuel cut out.

After another fix they were back on track but for just one full lap this time as the clutch failed. At 5.15am the crew had the car fully functional once again although in last place. Five hours of trouble free running followed before Webb managed to roll the car.

An hour was required to get the car raceworthy again and it rejoined with the car running at its quickest pace since the race began.

Noon proved a low point, particularly for the chassis as it buckled and the car was scraping the track surface on every corner. This eventually caused the loss of the exhaust system but shortly afterwards Burtenshaw set what was to be the team's fastest lap of the race.

They finished 31st with the car declared a write off.
