A Brighton woman died from leg ulcers after refusing treatment.

Sue Slater, who was 49, single and unemployed, was found in bed by her mother at their home in Pankhurst Avenue.

A post-mortem examination showed she died from infected leg ulcers, an inquest at Brighton heard on Thursday.

Brighton and Hove coroner Veronica Hamilton Deeley said she would be inquiring into the possibility of neglect and asked for reports from Miss Slater's doctor and anyone else who was looking after her.

Jane Ritchie, coroner's officer, said early indications suggested Miss Slater did not want help for her condition.

She said: "The reports will be minimal."

Mrs Hamilton Deeley adjourned the full inquest to August 27.
