Headhunters have been appointed to search for a new chief executive at high street retailer WH Smith, the company confirmed today.
Richard Handover is not due to reach the company's retirement age of 60 for another two years but WH Smith said it had started succession planning.
Mr Handover has been chief executive since 1997 and served the group for almost 40 years.
The company confirmed it had briefed recruitment experts to look both internally and externally for suitable candidates.
