A man is critically ill in hospital after emergency surgery for a brain clot following a fight in a petrol station.

Two men were arrested yesterday in connection with the brawl, which took place just after midnight on Saturday at the Esso garage in Franklyn Road, Haywards Heath.

They have been released on bail.

A 32-year-old man from Haywards Heath is on a ventilator in hospital.

Police said the brawl started after an argument in the garage shop.

The men eventually left but the victim was found by a neighbour collapsed outside his front door at 1.30am.

He was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital for immediate surgery, then to Hurstwood Park Hospital.

Police want to speak to a woman with shoulder-length hair and other witnesses at the garage.

A spokesman said: "CCTV pictures show there were at least ten people in the garage. We would like to speak to as many of them as possible."
