Cheeky Chester the flyaway parrot has been reunited with his cartoonist owner.

The ten-year-old Green Monk parrot, who flew off from his home in Lark Rise, Crawley, is safely back with Georgia Prosser, who has created a cartoon strip based on his antics.

His latest adventure, however, only took him a mile from home where he enjoyed a temporary stay with a new "family" in Langley Green.

But when they saw newspaper stories about the missing creature, they brought him back home.

Georgia said: "He was so pleased to see everyone except my mother. He gave her a hard time and pulled her hair because she had been with him when he got startled and flew off."

Chester stayed up until 2am to celebrate his return before retiring to his cage for a snack of cooked peas and bananas.

Georgia added: "I cried tears of joy. I never thought I would ever see him again.

"They read the story in the paper and called us. It was wonderful news."
