Adam Trimingham admits the new Tesco store in Church Road is "a shock to the eyeballs" (The Argus, July 3).
It will be slightly more of a shock to those approaching from the east if the plans to reduce the height of the trees in St Andrew's churchyard and the boundary wall between the church and the store go ahead.
It may not be the most beautiful of walls but it is a Grade II listed feature. The old gasworks was not a pretty sight.
That a building less ugly but certainly no beauty should replace it is stupid.
In his plea for boldness and innovation the Sage of Sussex reflects the views of many of us who care for the quality of architecture in the city.
It is a pity the opportunity to build an innovative feature on a prime site in Hove has been missed.
