BIG changes are being made to the offices occupied by Brighton and Hove City Council.

Bartholomew House, opposite Brighton Town Hall, is to be given a £450,000 facelift and take on more staff if councillors agree.

Although the revamp is costing a six-figure sum, it will save cash in the long run as other offices will go.

It is a pity the Royal York Buildings, a former hotel, are being sold as the council could have used and renovated them as it did with King's House in Hove.

Council tax payers, faced with another huge hike in payments next year, will applaud anything that will save cash.

But they may well ask if it is possible to squeeze more people into a renovated Bartholomew House now and cut costs, why wasn't it done years ago?
