We don't have to delve deeply into the history of Brighton to discover that the city on the southern-most coast has the edge on the majority of other cities in the UK.
Brighton has gained its reputation deservedly for being the city where art and culture flourish.
Whether it is street theatre or world-class shows at the Brighton Dome or the UK's finest Jewish Film Festival - this is the city where it can all happen in style.
We are all part of this continuing heritage of creating a city of possibility where the fantasy that began with the building of the magical palace of the Prince Regent can sustain an ongoing pageant of art, music and culture.
On a more prosaic note, to maintain this rich vein of creativity, there has to be funding to promote events across a wide spectrum of the arts and to ensure jobs can be created in the city to sustain these vital cultural assets.
In this way, Brighton will continue to attract the residents and tourists who are drawn here by this rich seam of vibrant arts and culture.
