Bar staff have spent a week convincing regulars their pub hasn't been burgled after smashing in the windows as part of a refurbishment.
The Farmers Hotel in South Street, Lancing, says it has had a constant stream of worried punters asking what had happened after seeing broken glass.
Pub worker Cathy Pollard said: "We're getting new windows because we are trying to make the place nicer, as it is under new management.
"We've had loads of inquiries. You only have to say 'boo' in Lancing and it has gone around in five minutes.
"Everyone keeps coming in and asking what happened."
