A quartet of Sussex riders travelled back from France as conquering heroes.

Andy Ballard, Steve Bullimore, Ryan Harris and Richard Diamond all produced class wins in the BEMSEE Nationwide and King of Clubs races at Croix en Ternois across the English Channel.

Ballard, from Portslade, won both Clubman 400 races which means he continues to lead the King of Clubs series and is now sixth in the Nationwide event.

In the Supersport 400 class, Ballard claimed three third places and a fourth from the four races. He heads the King of Clubs standings in this class and is ninth in the Nationwide championship.

Haywards Heath ace Steve Bullimore maintained his lead in the Nationwide Supertwins class with a win in Saturday's second race, plus a third, a fourth and one non-finish. He holds a 30 point advantage in that championship from Brian Giles while Crawley's Dave Lodge maintained fifth place in the series after two fifths and a fourth.

Brighton's Ryan Harris still leads the Minitwins standings with one win and two seconds places - and that was after crashing out of the first race while in the lead.

Richard Diamond, from Crawley, won all three Grand Prix 125 races he contested.

Peacehaven's Kevin Stone continued his improvement in the Supersport 600 and Clubman 1300 races.

In the 600cc class, Stone finished eight in the first race and was running sixth in the second race when a mistake on the final lap cost him five places. On the Sunday, he finished seventh and 12th.

There was also an impressive fourth place for Stone in the first Clubman 1300 race and he was running second in the final race of the weekend when he crashed out.

ALUN Edwards and his ISL Motorsport team are up to third in the GT Cup section of the British GT Championship.

Edwards and team-mate Jeff Wyatt are defying the odds by keeping their cash-strapped outfit challenging for honours in their 4.6litre Marcos Mantis.

Lack of money meant they missed last Friday's test day at Oulton Park but that did not prevent Edwards qualifying the Mantis eighth in class on Saturday and clocking the fastest time of the two ISL drivers.

In sizzling temperatures on Sunday, Wyatt scrapped for 30 minutes for position with rivals in the GT Cup class before disaster struck just before the handover to Edwards. Two dualing GTO class cars lapping Wyatt dived for a gap, made contact and sent Wyatt into a spin.

Although unhurt, Wyatt said: "It was outright dangerous driving."

He brought the car into the pits but Edwards discovered after the change over that the suspension had been misaligned and damaged the rear hub making the Mantis difficult to handle.

Despite the problems, Edwards carried on to finish fifth in class and eighth overall, a creditable result which seemed even better when the retirement of the Morgan Aero 8 of Wells and Ahlers moved them into third in the GT Cup class championship.
