While agreeing in principle with Michael Harling (Letters, July 19) about the need to avoid the "nanny" state we are becoming, I don't agree with him about smoking.

I want smokers to have the right to smoke (as I used to) but I resent having the awful smell they create pervading my clothes and hair if I happen to be near them.

I would so love to go to pubs more often but smokers have full rights in most of them.
