Television cameras will be rolling at a sandcastle competition on Friday.

Littlehampton beach has been added to a list of venues for Meridian television's annual summer series of televised sandcastle building competitions.

The competition will be hosted by newsreader Fred Dinneage, from Meridian Tonight.

It is the first time the event has visited the town's beach.

Competitors, armed with a free bucket and spade, have just one hour to build the best sandcastle they can.

Dusty Springfield tribute singer Karen Noble, who is appearing at Butlins in Bognor, is the competition's guest judge.

The contest is being held on the beach between the eastern seafront green car park and the Banjo Road coach/car park.

Registration takes place on the day between 10am and 11am in the white Meridian tent.

The competition will run from 11am to noon, with judging and prize presentations between noon and 12.45pm.

Richard Edwards, Arun District Council's head of tourism, said: "We are delighted to welcome Meridian to our award-winning beach.

"The coverage will encourage thousands of viewers to take a fresh look at Littlehampton, a great place for families to visit and to enjoy."
