Not only did Oliver Twist ask for more, the vociferous audience did so as well at the end of this lively production.

Lionel Bart's musical based on the much-loved Dickens story is crammed full of songs and was well served by the Southwick Players and their Youth Group, Act Too.

In the title role, Jake Sutherland-Rowe was spirited, appealing and managed to avoid the usual syrupy interpretation as we followed his adventures from the misery of the workhouse to his rightful place in a loving home.

Befriended by the Artful Dodger, Oliver was introduced to Fagin and his den of thieves and to the tender-hearted Nancy.

While Tony Harris delighted the audience with his comical Fagin, Rebecca Watts moved them as she declared her love for Bill Sykes in As Long As He Needs Me.

The large cast worked hard to provide an evening of enjoyable entertainment.
