Paul Hacker wants his Eastbourne side to defy the odds and do their bit for the title race.
Eastbourne host Hastings Priory tomorrow knowing they could knock the champions off the top if they avoid defeat.
Hastings currently lead the league by 11 points from Horsham, who are at home to bottom team Stirlands.
The top two meet at Horsham next week.
Eastbourne skipper Hacker said: "It will be difficult. We have got guys away on tour this week and they only get back the night before the game.
"We still need as many points as we can get, though, given our league position."
Hacker is struggling with a back injury so Paul Stevens is expected to lead the side.
Richard Halsall is away with Sussex.
Despite Hacker's wariness, the relegation issue now looks to be virtually decided with Worthing and Stirlands stranded in the bottom two.
Worthing's best chance is to get a home win tomorrow over a Steyning side missing Paul Hutchison, then hope it sets them on a good run.
Captain Andy Lutwyche has not lost faih in his team though he has been very disappointed by their batting at times.
He said: "It's a confidence thing. I get the feeling if we win one we will win a few."
Pick of Sunday's cup quarter-finals appears to be the clash at the Nevill between Brighton and Eastbourne, who shared a thrilling league fixture last week.
Preston Nomads get the chance to spring another shock as they host East Grinstead.
Horsham entertain neighbours Roffey and Hastings are at Steyning.
Hastings also have a big date on Tuesday (1.30pm) when they host a Lashings side likely to include Richie Richardson, Mark Waugh and Sherwin Campbell along with several other Test stars.
