I can only conclude that the Voice Of The Argus likes lap-dancing.
Two editorials have now supported the plans for the Tivoli Club in Hove becoming a lap-dancing venue and now objectors and councillors receive a ticking off over the application possibly going to appeal.
Well, that is the due process and is true for every application rejected. The grounds for rejection in this case were clear and not, as the Voice suggests, morally based.
There are very real late-night, anti-social behaviour problems in this part of Western Road Also, the application would clearly have a detrimental impact on neighbouring residents, many of whose homes actually adjoin the building.
The Voice is also wrong in making comparisons to the Pussy Cat Club. The Tivoli Club is a large and highly visible building with a good-sized shopfront on Western Road.
The Pussy Cat Club is more discrete with just a doorway on to Church Road.
I can only repeat my call for the owners of the building to put this unique venue to some kind of arts or community use so all residents can enjoy it and not just a handful of well-off men.
-Councillor Paul Elgood, Liberal Democrat councillor for Brunswick and Adelaide
