Camp comedian Julian Clary helped raise a titter as he celebrated the 120th anniversary of the Volk's Railway in Brighton.
The world's oldest public electric railway, which runs between the aquarium and Black Rock, was opened by the Mayor of Brighton on August 4 1883.
Julian joined present mayor Jeanne Lepper to re-enact the launch and enjoy a jaunt along the seafront.
He was watched by crowds who headed to the seafront yesterday to enjoy the heatwave.
The star, who has a home in the city, said: "I love Brighton because it's so camp - and the campest thing about it is the Volk's Railway."
Julian and Mrs Lepper travelled to the midway point, where the comedian opened an exhibition on the railway's history and future.
