Director of cricket Peter Moores today promised that there would be no one-day hangover when Sussex take on Lancashire in their key Championship match at Hove today.

The county remain bottom of the second division after losing by seven wickets to leaders Lancashire last night.

It was hardly a good omen for the clash between the sides tucked in behind leaders Surrey but Moores is confident of a different outcome.

"I'm not going to brush anything under the carpet. The priority is our next two Championship matches, but then we have to find a way of getting some success out of our last few one-day games," he said.

"But the boys are very much up for the challenge of the next four days and last night won't affect how we play in that game. Not being able to conquer white ball cricket is not a new thing, but we have still been able to play good Championship cricket and that will continue.

"We are in a fantastic position to make history by winning the Championship and it's understandable that it has become a distraction."

With James Kirtley poised to make his England debut in the third Test at Trent Bridge, Billy Taylor will open with Paul Hutchison.

Sussex (probable): Montgomerie, Goodwin, Cottey, Adams, Ambrose, Martin-Jenkins, Prior, Davis, Ahmed, Hutchison, Taylor.

Lancashire (from): Sutcliffe, Chilton, Loye, Law, Hooper, Hegg, Martin, Keedy, Wood, Hogg, Schofield, Chapple, Mahmood.
