Lady Miss Kier, Slacker breakbeats and a clubbers' holiday camp are all here for your flash-heeled entertainment.
SUBSTANCE, Ocean Rooms, Brighton, August 15: Lady Miss Kier could almost be the perfect Substance DJ. Best-known for the part she played in Deee-lite's success, alongside Super DJ Dmitry Brill and DJ Towa "Towa" Tei, and, in particular, the dancefloor smash Groove Is in the Heart (a party staple if ever there was one). These days she's a DH spinning everything from techno and house to reggae, breaks, funk and soul, which sounds just about perfect for Substance. It's another of those nights where anything goes in the name of dancing, which is no bad thing. Don't forget Req will be spraying up the art. It runs from 10pm to 2am. Admission is £7/5. Tel 01273 699069.
POSITIVE SOUND SYSTEM, Concorde 2, Brighton, August 16: Or, the Positive Holiday Camp, as the flyer describes the prospect of six hours by the seaside. Special guest Ari Daily will be making sure the campers have fun alongside residents Simon Atkinson, Magnus Asberg and Kooki. Just remember kids - it's not all dancey-dancey. The flyer suggests you could even try to talking to a member of the opposite sex! That's if you can make yourself heard above that 15k sound system. It runs from 10pm to 4am and costs £8/7. Tel 01273 772770.
SLACKERS CONVENTION, Pressure Point, Brighton, August 15: The usual suspects are back in force to provide the summer stint of Slack clubbing as only they know how - namely, breaks all the way. This residents' night sees Richard Scott, Dirty Bomb and Watson in a three-decks-and-effects improvisation with breaks and beats aplenty in a scratchy 90-minute set. The night runs from 10pm to 2am. Tickets cost £2.50. Tel 01273 702333.
STOMPAPHUNK, Funky Buddha Lounge, Brighton, August 15: Ashley Beedle is on the decks tonight, minus the other two-thirds of X-Press 2. Not that this should stop him keeping the crowd at the Funky Buddha Lounge moving and grooving. Just one request Ashley - please don't play Elton John's Are You Ready For Love (or even your remix). I've heard it far too many times already. It runs from 10pm to 3am. It costs £5 before 11pm (£8 after). For more information, visit www.stompaphunk.com
