Roger French, managing director of Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company, said how challenging the heat is for his drivers (The Argus, August 10).
He has introduced new low emission fuel buses because of the change of climate we now have in this country.
Drivers are in the cabs of buses for up to five hours, sometimes stuck in constant road works and other obstacles en-route.
Some buses are also being fitted with security screens which makes it even hotter for them.
But he still does not allow them to wear shorts.
A few years ago they were allowed to wear shorts but not any more.
His passengers are getting on buses wearing shorts because of the very hot weather and nobody is going to worry what the driver is wearing on his legs as long as the bus turns up.
Women drivers have the option of trousers or skirts so why not let the men have the option of trousers or shorts?
