Volunteers are being sought to help support the work of a hospice.
The family services team at St Barnabas Hospice in Columbia Drive, Worthing, is looking to recruit a group of volunteers to work as family support workers.
The volunteers will work with families to help them before and after the death of a loved one.
The workers will visit family members on a regular basis and help them come to terms with what is happening within their family.
They will usually spend about an hour listening and talking - and playing too if a child is involved.
Time will be spent building a professional relationship with the person so the support workers can be alongside when the death occurs and then support the grieving people through bereavement.
For children, the workers will use all sorts of activities, including dough, puppets, drawing, mask making, games and books to help them come to terms with the death.
All volunteers who pass the initial recruitment interview will be booked on to an extensive training programme.
The first day of training will be on September 20, followed by every Thursday evening, culminating with an all-day Saturday session.
The charity is looking for men and women of all ages who can commit to at least six hours per month.
