Mayoress of Worthing Mel Doyle raced along supermarket aisles after winning a raffle.
Police officer Mrs Doyle took part in a trolley dash that allowed her to keep whatever she could put in a trolley within a set time at Safeway supermarket, Worthing.
The Mayoress visited the store before to help her plan the operation and arranged her strategy in advance to ensure she grabbed the items she later donated to her chosen charities.
Kitchen staff at St Barnabas Hospice in Colombia Drive were delighted with the bags of tinned goods she donated, which will be used directly for the patients.
Several large packets of bacon also made their way into the trolley which Mayor James Doyle will using when he helps cook breakfast for a Worthing homeless charity today.
Mrs Doyle had three minutes to fill her trolley and managed to acquire food worth more than £450.
The upper limit was £300 but Safeway manager Andy Chaffey waived the extra cost because the event was benefiting charities.
The car sticker raffle was run by Worthing Festival, Splash FM and St Barnabas.
