My colleagues and I read with envy - yes, envy - the conditions the staff at Amex were suffering during the recent hot spell (The Argus, August 10).

I am a bread baker for Forfars bakery in Brighton, a trade which is often overlooked by most people.

Working with food, we had to dress in full protective clothing in temperatures rarely dipping below 110F at 2am for the last four weeks.

How we all longed for ice lollies to be brought around and the chance to dress in shorts. But strict health and hygene rules mean we can't.

We're not moaning at all. My thanks go to my team of dedicated staff who cope very well.

Needless to say, none of us need the Atkins diet. So when you're complaining about the heat or sitting on the beach eating one of our products, spare us a thought.
