Oh dear, Ken Bodfish has done it yet again with his ill-chosen words (Letters, August 21).

I took part in the THT South "Stamp Out Discrimination" photo shoot, posing in the Old Steine alongside staff from Brighton and Hove City Council and this made me believe the council was positively in favour of stopping discrimination.

How wrong I appear to have been as this is apparently not the case according to Ken's latest proud boast, as leader of the council, of giving £1m worth of land and £250,000 to support the Albion's planning application and nothing to Pride.

Ken appears almost ecstatic that the council does not fund Pride for one day a year and therefore allows a small band of dedicated people to give Brighton and Hove free international media coverage, encouraging a vast range of sexualities, genders, nationalities and creeds to visit and spend money in our shops, restaurants and hotels.

Some establishments said they sold out of many items during Pride, with queues at restaurants and full hotels.

We have received so many positive mails following this tremendous event, with many stating that they will be returning. So we don't fill Brighton and Hove on just one weekend a year.

I personally arrange and organise the Pride Parade annually. I give up so many hours of my time encouraging companies and volunteer groups to take part.

I attend many meetings with the council and police to ensure Pride is a safe event. I climb lamp posts to erect signs giving advance warning of city centre congestion.

I also arrange the medical services for Pride, using 60 unpaid volunteers from St John Ambulance from Sussex and other counties.

Brighton and Hove Albion, at Withdean Stadium, have around 6,000 attendees and two teams of 11. Pride In Brighton and Hove has 200,000 watching along the route with 700 (in 68 teams) in the Parade giving this city that special sparkle.

The police state that 90,000 attended the Pride Festival in Preston Park from 12 noon until 8pm without incident.

Both organisations require your assistance, Ken, so why are you so discriminatory?
