The picture of the "banana" building (The Argus, August 21) gives rise to our worst fears about the developers' "vision" for Brighton.
I like modern design. I even like the stripes but the building is too high and bulky for its setting.
Surely an architect with the reputation of Piers Gough can do better than this?
Josh Arghiros may well have a vision. The North Laine is a five-minute walk from the station ideal for wealthy commuters to travel in and out of London from.
The more high buildings he can put up, the better for his development company.
The most successful developments in Brighton have been small scale the Lanes, the indigenous growth of North Laine and the spectacular success of the seafront which has brought many more visitors into Brighton.
Small scale, people-sized, funky developments have been very successful. Let's have a few more of these.
I totally agree with Douglas Morris and Jane Goldsmith (Letters, August 20) on the application for the tower block on the Endeavour site and would like to inform Jane Goldsmith that, as I live very close to Preston Park and use the park regularly, I will be adversely affected by it.
I also wish to point that the two Labour councillors for Preston Park, Kevin Allen and I, have vigourously opposed the application and will continue to do so.
-Coun Juliet McCaffery, Preston Park Ward, Brighton and Hove City Council
