Just when I thought Brighton and Hove could not surprise me any more, along comes another story (The Argus, August 20) which leaves me salivating.

I refer to the appointment of former Labour councillor Heather James as the mouthpiece (or the more grandly titled community liaison and communications coordinator) for Karis and partners, who are responsible for the catastrophe of the Tin Can Towers planned for Hove.

Isn't Ms James one of the councillors who lost their seats to the Tories because of their support for this project?

This move by Karis clearly shows what utter contempt it and the minority Labour administration have for the local electorate.

What an absolute hoot to read the dross from Josh Arghiros that "as this project is so important for our city it is vital the community is involved from the outset".

And yet another gem from Ms James: "I intend to listen to what people say. We must get it right."

Er, excuse me, guys, but what are you going to say to the great majority of people who rightly oppose this farce?

Will you bow to their wishes and reduce the height of the buildings or reduce the towers to one?

No, you won't take a blind bit of notice.

The only thing Karis and Mr Arghiros are afraid of is losing the huge profit they will make from this project.

It is strange how a party which once prided itself on its socialist principles and social conscience should jump into bed with big business.

It is imperative that all individuals and organisations who oppose this should join together to ensure this madness is stopped.

History will not forgive us if we fail.
