A week or so ago I passed close by the bandstand on Brighton seafront, near the bottom of Preston Street and was appalled by the state of it. It is rusty and very scruffy.
Almost every week in The Argus you read about the wonderful city of Brighton and Hove but when you see the sad sight of the bandstand, for example, you scratch your head and wonder what Brighton has to be so proud about.
Brighton, probably more so than Hove, has become such a dirty, scruffy place to visit and is worse if you live there.
Black sacks and rubbish are strewn everywhere around dirty buildings. Yobs, druggies and beggars frequent the most popular places.
I am old enough to go back more than 50 years and remember those good, safe days.
I know times have changed but we must all take a share of the blame for allowing this rot.
So, come on, members of the council, please get the bandstand up and running. Let us have music emitting from it instead of the rather nasty smell that currently abounds the vicinity.
