Heather Olver has been selected to play for England under-19s after recovering from glandular fever.

Olver, 17, from Heathfield, will compete in Germany and Sweden next month in the Langefeld and Malmo Internationals.

She warmed up at the Yorkshire Open where she reached the semi-finals of the ladies' doubles with Jenny Wallwork.

They were defeated 2-0 by top seeds Jenny Day (Yorkshire) and Rachel Howard (Hertfordshire).

Her father Alastair said: "Heather was pleased with her result in York.

"She was unsure about her fitness but she came through okay and is looking forward to playing for England."

Heather will play in Germany with fellow Sussex players Dean George (Portslade), Kirsten Read (Heathfield) and Luke Thomson (Chiddingly).

George and Read compete in the under-17s age group and Thomson at under-15s. Sussex press officer Teresa Hawkins said: "It is reflects well on Sussex junior badminton that it has had four players selected for England at the same time."

Sussex trials, September 6 (Portslade Sports Centre): under-11s (west), under-13s and under-17s. September 13 (Heathfield Sports Centre): under-11s (East).
