The seafront has landed the Old Kent Road square on the Brighton Monopoly board game.
The game is due to go into production on Monday and pre-sale orders have already topped 10,000.
The identity of the squares is being kept secret until the game is unveiled in October but The Argus has learnt Old Kent Road will be occupied by the seafront.
The next cheapest square is expected to be named the promenade.
The appointments have been made following a public poll.
Promoter Graham Barnes said: "The seafront may be a controversial choice but we reckon it will discourage any kind of building as you don't get a very good return on Old Kent Road.
"The seafront is an area of great natural beauty and world renowned - and the public has suggested in polling it should stay that way."
The battle to secure the most expensive position on the board, traditionally Mayfair, is between The Grand, the Royal Pavilion, the Palace Pier and The Lanes.
Mr Barnes said: "Of all the games we have produced, this has created most debate. The board will raise a few eyebrows.
"Pre-sales have taken us by surprise and we have had to up the print run and adjust our forecasts accordingly."
The game will be filled with 33 landmarks and be played in exactly the same way as traditional Monopoly.
