Recently I sent a letter to Southern Water to withdraw my consent to the potential fluoridation of local water supplies should the new Water Bill be voted through Parliament on September 8.
I also asked why it had requested legal indemnity from the Government against potential litigation from customers.
The response I received basically said "this is a very difficult issue for us" and "this is a matter for the health authorities".
That's passing the buck. And there was no response to the question about indemnity.
The water companies have chosen the coward's way out.
They should protect the health of their customers by opposing a Bill which will give health authorities the right to order the dumping of this deadly toxin in our water.
Instead, Water UK, the water companies association, has requested nothing more from the Government than to cover its own back.
According to the National Pure Water Association, water companies are scared that if they oppose Government wishes they will be re-nationalised.
Poor them. Millions of people may soon have no option but to receive poisoned water via their taps.
Probably also to stay in favour with the Government, Kemp Town MP Des Turner has signed the pro-fluoridation Early Day Motion and neither Brighton MP David Lepper nor Hove MP Ivor Caplin has signed the EDM opposing it.
