Householders bidding to improve their homes can release equity with the help of Worthing Borough Council.
In some circumstances, financial assistance is available from the council for renovation or repair of a property that is unfit for habitation.
Any help is subject to an equity and means test and the cash is repayable to the council upon future sale of the property.
However, where a loan is not possible, the council can provide a safety net of cash-backing for the most vulnerable homeowners living in the worst housing conditions.
Under a new policy, the council will continue to provide grants for disabled facilities, minor works to enable the elderly to stay in their homes and thermal insulation works for people on low incomes.
